Yang Zhiguang (1930-2016) was a well-known artist and art educator. At a young age, he was inspired by Gao Jianfu, the founder of the Lingnan School of Painting. Yang was later admitted to the Painting Department of the China Central Academy of Fine Art, where he studied under Xu Beihong, Ye Qianyu, and Dong Xiwen. Yang then taught in the Chinese Painting Department at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, where he served as professor, department chair, and, later, as vice president. In 1991, Yang began his decade-long career, traveling between China and the United States, promoting art and cultural exchanges. Between 1997 and 1998, Yang donated 1,200 of his artworks to the National Art Museum of China, the Guangdong Museum of Art, the Guangzhou Museum of Art, and Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts.
