Guan Shanyue (1912-2000) was a Chinese painter known for his sensitive depictions of foggy mountain summits. He was born on October 25, 1912 in Yangjiang, China. In 1933, Guan graduated from the Guangzhou College of Education. He studied under Gao Jianfu, founder of the Lingnan School of painting, until 1940. In 1941, Guan began traveling through Western China, where he researched ancient Buddhist mural paintings and painted Buddhist holy sites. In addition, Guan traveled to the Soviet Union, Poland, Switzerland, France, Belgium, Korea, Vietnam, Japan, and the United States to gain a deeper understanding of artworks around the world and further his art development. In 1991, Guan donated to the Chinese Artists Association to establish the Shanyue Guan Chinese Painting Fund. He also funded and donated his artworks to found the Shanyue Guan Art Museum in Shenzhen.
Li Xiongcai (1910-2001) was a figure, flower, bird, and landscape painter. He was born in Gaoyao in the Guangdong Province. Li received his earliest artistic training from his father, and later studied with Gao Jianfu, founder of the Lingnan School of painting. His studies focused on Chinese painting and other artist techniques, as well as sketching.
