138 lots, ink calligraphies by Yu Youren, including poems of Li Mengyang, Ni Zan, Zhang Yu, Han Yu, Shu Shi, Li Shangying, Zhou Mi, Chen Yunxiao, Huang Tingjian, Wang Wei, Du Fu, Lu You, Meng Haoran, Bai Juyi and Gu Yanwu, five-characters and seven-character couplets, Sun Yat-sen’s words, works of “Zhong Lv Zui Gao Ge”, “Zhong Yong”, “Man Jiang Hong”, “Zheng Qi Ge”, “Li Yun Da Tong Pian” in cursive scripts, running scripts and hanging scrolls.
Yu Youren (April 11, 1879 – November 10, 1964) was an educator, scholar, calligrapher and politician active during the Republic period. Yu was a scholar of calligraphy and was regarded as one China’s modern masters. His works in cursive and semi-cursive manner are intensely animated. He was perhaps best known for his calligraphy and published related works on the topic. Yu’s writing style is very popular and his works are considered very desirable by collectors. He completed numerous inkworks, stone carvings, and title plaques while living in Taipei including works for the National Museum of History, Din Tai Fung, Xingtiang Temple, and the Shilin Official Residence.
